Today we’re going to be taking a look at MeridianBet: a betting site that includes both a sportsbook and a casino. We’ll be exploring various factors to see if it’s worth your time and hard earned cash.
With so much to choose from and so much out there, it can be hard to even know where to begin. A lot of that will depend on what you’re looking for.
Perhaps you only want a casino. In which case, there are a whole bunch of sites dedicated to providing just that. Online operators dedicated to delivering a fantastic casino experience include Genting Casino, Royal Panda Casino and Manhattan Slots, to name but a few. These upper tier casino exclusive sites will probably be better suited to your needs. There’s a few reasons for this. One is that the dedicated focus often means that you end up with a better product in terms of game selection, promotions and variety.
There’s also the issue of site design. Casino sites generally are a little bit more experimental in terms of how they create a site aesthetically. While some sportsbook and casino sites do utilise their separate pages to create a different look for the latter, they rarely match the creativity on display at Rizk Casino or Rich Casino for example.
For these reasons, we will generally be comparing MeridianBet to other sportsbook and casino sites. This is because we imagine most people considering this site will be looking for both of those products. However, if its casino does match up with the bigger boys on the casino game, we’ll certainly give it praise for that.
You may also like the more stripped back design of the hybrid sites. Examples include the likes of Virgin Casino and Sportsbook and Mr Green’s Casino and Sportsbook, which have both proved very popular.
Speaking of site design, this is an element that we’re aware is a matter of personal preference. This, alongside other factors, means that while we go to great lengths to provide you with as informative a review as possible, it’s always a good idea to have a good look around a site yourself before signing up. We also advise you check out some of their competition as well so you can get the full picture.
With that introduction to what to expect from our detailed site analysis out of the way, let’s get going!
Here are the most important questions you’ll need answering when considering signing up to MeridianBet
So what’s the variety like on the site?
As mentioned, this is a site that encompasses both a sportsbook and a casino.
This might mean you’d think the site can be given a little more slack in terms of variety because it’s stretching itself further. While that’s true to an extent, there’s still some pretty hefty expectations.
Thanks to the like of Ladbrokes, Betfred, William Hill, Coral and many more, the standard has skyrocketed over the years. This means that in order to compete, MeridianBet will have to stand up to the example set by its much more recognisable competition.
On the sportsbook side of things, we have the following sports available at the time of writing:
- Ping Pong
- Martial Arts
- Formula 1
- Rugby Union
- Alpine Sking
- American Football
- Goalscorers (not a sport but a separate betting section)
- Moto Sport
- Rugby League
- Ski Jumping
This is an excellent selection, with plenty of unusual options there to make sure pretty much all sports fans are catered for. There’s also a section dedicated to virtuals and racing. This includes boy greyhound and horse racing.
On the casino side of things, we’ve got a pretty decent selection of slots, table games, slot games, jackpots, video poker and other games. The list is far too extensive to publish here in its entirety but we’d say it’s a good if not great selection. The casino is instant play, meaning there’s no need for downloads, which is a plus.
Aside from this, there’s also a dedicated keno section, alongside other specials.
On the other hand
There’s not too much to complain about for MeridianBet as far as variety goes. The sportsbook is good and all the little extras are very much appreciated.
The letdown, if there is one, probably goes to the casino but even that’s pretty decent. We’d say as long as casino gaming isn’t your main focus, then you should be pretty happy with what’s on offer here.
Do they have a good reputation?
Quite possibly the most important question when looking into any betting site is whether they’re trustworthy. That’s one part of the reputation question. The other is what type of general feedback they’ve gotten from customer and critics over the years.
On the first point, MeridianBet is licensed by the Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authorities. Your information is kept safe by the industry standard SSL Encryption.
In terms of fairness, the Microgaming software used is audited to ensure the games you are playing are fair and random. This means you won’t be getting ripped off in their casino.
On the other hand
In terms of their customer and critical reputation, it’s pretty middle of the road. While we haven’t seen any reports of the site having a truly terrible review or customer report, we’ve not seen any great ones either.
The reputation both critically and from customers seems to be stuck right in the mediocre level. This isn’t bad, but isn’t quite enough for the site to reach the dizzying heights of William Hill.
Do they have decent customer service options?
One of the best ways to judge a site is by how they handle their customers.
In terms of options, MeridianBet have a very extensive FAQ section. They also offer e-mail addresses for various departments, an address, a phone number, a fax number and that all important live chat function.
As far as we can tell, the live chat is 24/7. Unfortunately though, we can’t confirm this due to a lack of information. All we can say is that whenever we tried it, we received a response.
In terms of options, this is about as good as can be expected. That’s assuming that we are correct about the cover being round the clock.
From the few examples of feedback regarding customer service we could find, it was fairly positive. Our experiences with them were also positive. Their friendly staff responded quickly and effectively answered our queries.
On the other hand
As is often the case with sites that aren’t household names, MeridianBet suffers from a lack of information in this regard. This means we can’t really give a decent indication of the general public response to their customer feedback. The best we can say is that from what we’ve seen, the response appears to look good. However, we cannot be sure without more responses from customers.
Do they have any good promotions?
The importance of promotions really depends on the individual. For some, this is quite a low priority. For others, this can be a major decision maker. Regardless, a decent selection of offers must always be seen as a plus.
At the time of writing, there are three promotions available at MeridianBet. These include:
- Bonus Fifth Match:
Get bonus odds on any bet with a minimum of five.
- Welcome Bonus:
Receive 100% bonus on your deposit up to £50, with minimum odds of 1.50. This is decent. Best of all is the turnover requirement, which is an excellent eight times.
- Turbo Payout:
Receive a payout before your bet is finished if your betting slip has three or more wins.
On the other hand
Let’s start with the obvious: three promotions for a sportsbook and casino site is simply not good enough. While there are some sites with even less, DigiBet for example, this is still well below what is competitive.
Also, both the Bonus Fifth Match and the Turbo Payout as so poorly described on the site that it’s hard to understand the details of either promotion. We assume both Bonus Fifth Match and Turbo Payout are both accumulators, as that appears to be the only thing that would make sense. However, it;s never expressly stated.
If that is the case, then the Turbo Payout bonus would simply be an option to opt out of your accumulator early. Honestly though, we’re not 100% sure this is correct: that’s how poorly these promotions are explained to the customer.
The Bonus Fifth Match is even more confusing. Here’s a snippet of the rules:
“From now on all of the odds of the final outcome in football are significantly higher. And the odds are by your choice. By far the highest odds on the final outcome of the match with a bonus odd”
The rules need to be rewritten so they are clearer.
The Welcome Bonus is the sole island in a sea of disappointing bonuses, with a genuinely worthwhile and achievable offer.
What banking options are available?
The following options are available to deposit and withdraw funds at MeridianBet:
- Credit Cards
- Click and Buy
- Bank Wire
On the other hand
Although there is a section under help dedicated to this information, it does not actually tell you everything you need to know. On the page, it says that no minimum or maximum amounts “are defined”. There’s also no information regarding transaction times.
This lack of information is such a needless oversight. It’s this lack of attention to detail that lets the site down in other areas as well.
Is the site well designed?
Let’s start with the homepage.
It’s a simple layout you’ll likely have come to expect from a sportsbook with few exceptions. Towards the top of the screen, you’ve got your logo and the log in and sign in options. Below, there’s some slides showing off promotions and features games.
Scroll down and you’ll see selected sporting options. Here you can find the most popular bets of the day, as well as get a taste of odds available and the general set up of betting. To the bottom of the screen, there’s additional information and links.
Structurally, it can be described as serviceable.
The casino page doesn’t change much. The top half of the screen remains basically the same except for a colour change. Below where sporting options were previously, there’s a small menu to the left and tiled game thumbnails to the right. Its simplicity does make it very easy to navigate.
In terms of style, it’s definitely more on the conservative side. It doesn’t rock the boat, sticking with a straightforward and simplistic look that’s far away from flashier competition. This isn’t necessarily a problem though. Major sites such BetBright or Betfair aren’t exactly breaking new ground looks-wise either.
On the other hand
While it’s true that many very popular sites are quite minimalistic, there does tend to be a sense of lightness to them. This is often created by the extra space that MeridianBet seems to lack.
In fact, the entire site seems very cluttered. The issue with that is the whole point of having a stripped back look is to avoid that very problem. Cluttered sites tend to be very busy, with mascots and promotions bouncing around the screen. They trade efficiency for style. Here we’ve lost the efficiency but have gained very little in terms of style.
The site isn’t exactly ugly. It looks ok. Its homepage is certainly pleasant. There’s just a coldness and a lack of personality that permeates throughout. Take for example the stock market like look of the betting layout just below the promotions.
While the casino does not have the same problem structurally, it does lack any kind of identity and style away from the sportsbook.
There’s also some structural problems. This is nothing major: just sloppiness of the kind we’ve seen in its half completed banking options section. A fidgety drop list here, a confusingly titled link there. It all adds up.
It’s likely you won’t dislike MeridianBet’s layout. It’s far too inoffensive for that, but it’s equally hard to imagine anyone really loving the design of the site.
So what’s the overall verdict of MeridianBet?
While we do hate to be part of the crowd, we are going to have to go with the consensus here. MeridianBet is a decent site, but it’s not great.
Back when the competition online wasn’t so harsh, it would probably come across quite well. But today, with so many world class betting sites out there, MeridianNet needs to up its game to be able to compete with the best around.
