The online world today is like being a kid in a candy score for fans of online betting. There’s all your old favourites, like William Hill and Mr Green’s Casino and Sportsbook, to name but a few. There’s also a bunch of sites that are a little more obscure, such as the bubbly and stylish Manhattan Slots or the ultra modern Rizk Casino.

Looking for something a little more obscure? The likes of Bitstarz and Blitzfantasy offer unique products that serve specific niches, meaning that whatever you’re looking for, you’re likely to find it. There’s even sites that focus entirely on particular sports, such as the MMA dedicated Punchbets. Never has the world of online betting and casino been as diverse, exciting and welcoming as it is today.

So first and foremost, you’ll want to decide what kind of betting site you’re looking for. As a player, you can afford to be as picky as you want when it comes to deciding which site you are going to sign up.

Today we’re looking at Bwin. This is a site that offers both casino and sports betting options, which means that if you’re looking for an all rounder of a service, then you might be in luck here. But it also means that Bwin has got some very stiff competition from big name brands, such as Virgin Casino and Sportsbook, Ladbrokes and Betfair.

There’s lots to consider when deciding what’s going to give you the best deal and where you’ll have the most fun. However, we know that every single online punter is different. There’s no way we could know what you think is fun, what themes and styles appeal to you or what your top priorities are when you’re looking for a betting site.

You might value good promotions more than anything else, or one site element over another. You may prefer a laid back style or the in your face aesthetic of sites such as Jupiter Club or Rich Casino.

With that in mind, we would always advise you to take some time to look at the site for yourself, along with checking out some of its competition. We recommend you do this before making any final decisions… after reading this review of course.

Now, let’s ask some of those all important questions that should help you to decide how well Bwin stacks up to its many online rivals.

  1. Does the Bwin site look good and is it fun to use?

bwin site design

As mentioned above, whether or not you think a site is aesthetically pleasing, as well as fun to use, heavily depends on your preferences in terms of design. Bwin’s style is very much a conservative look, although it’s not completely devoid of colour.

It uses its promotions and occasional spurts of creativity, like dashes of paint, to liven up what might otherwise be a rather drab looking site.

Plenty of people will love this look, which doesn’t go quite as far as the occasionally bare bones minimalism of the very popular Virgin casino and sportsbook site. Instead, Bwin hits a sweet middle spot, sharing a lot in common with Betfair and Betway in terms of its aesthetic.

From a purely technical standpoint, there’s nothing to complain about. Bwin might not be breaking the mould in terms of layout but there’s a good reason for that. Very few sites have ever succeeded in playing with this formula too liberally. There’s the odd exception but honestly, this is a case of ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’.

Opting for the traditional online betting provider layout means that if you’ve ever used a sportsbook before, you’ll know what expect here. The other areas of the Bwin site follow a similar simplistic design.

Overall, the site runs smoothly, is responsive and is very use to use, understand and navigate. From a technical standpoint, we have no complaints whatsoever.

On the other hand

Like we said, whether you’ll like Bwin’s more straightforward style or not is all a matter of preference. Some people love the flashiness and brand heavy look of Royal Panda Casino or BGO.

If you want a little more glitz and glamour in your online betting experience then you may find that Bwin’s style falls a little short for you. This isn’t really a complaint against Bwin though. Different strokes for different folks.

One legitimate gripe is that the site does little to distinguish the different areas. You can maintain the principle of design simplicity and still have a casino section that looks distinct from the sportsbook, for example. Instead, at Bwin there is little to make the casino look like an enticing and stand alone product from the sportsbook.

Overall though, these are minor complaints and there’s no doubt that a lot of effort and finesse has gone into making Bwin such an enjoyable site to roam around on.

It’s a terrific line up from Bwin then all in all. There’s some great unique sports selections in there alongside more unusual bet types to keep things fresh and interesting.

bwin casino games

The casino offers everything you’d expect, including slot games, table games, live casino games and more. The games are of a decent quality, as is to be expected of a company of the size and standing of Bwin.

They also offer a mobile service, so you can bet and play while on the go via your smartphone or tablet device.

On the other hand

There’s pretty much nothing we can say is wrong with the Bwin sportsbook. So we’ll leave that as an overwhelming positive.

The casino however, does need to be downloaded in order for players to use it. This is a big disappointment, with so many simpler instant play sites out there. This just seems like an unnecessary hurdles for players who want to get stuck into the action without delay.

Also while the mobile service is nice, it is limited in comparison to the main site.

  1. Do they have a good reputation?

bwin security

Bwin are one of the biggest betting sites in the world and with that level of spotlight comes an extra level of scrutiny. Have they lived up to that scrutiny? Well, their strong standing in a highly saturated and competitive betting market does give customers peace of mind.

Another reassurance that this is a site you can trust with your funds is the fact that the site does have a selection of positive reviews from critics. They also have some good responses from customers.

On the other hand

Some good reviews does not mean all of them or even a majority are overwhelmingly positive. Their reviews from critics generally evens out at about average.

However, customer responses are a lot more scathing, with many citing non payment issues. Now, in the defence of Bwin, we can’t verify the validity of any of these claims and it’s certainly true that complaints are often given more weight due to people’s tendency to only speak out when there’s an issue.

Having said that though, the general public response with this in mind has to be considered disappointing. It is a shame to see Bwin, who excel in so many regards, have anything short of excellence reflected in their customer response.

  1. Do they have good customer service?

bwin live chat

They have everything you’d expect as far as customer service options go for a large internationally recognised site. This includes e-mail, telephone and an extensive FAQ section if you are just wanting a quick answer to your query.

Most importantly though, they have a live chat feature. This is a crucial element of customer support that is expected of betting sites these days. Its addition helps players to know that whenever an issue arises, they can get support quickly, easily and without any fuss.

On the other hand

When looking through customer complaints, issues with customer services unfortunately appears to come up time and time again. Many have complained that they are unhelpful and it really is a consistent criticism of the site.

Now, in our dealing with them, we didn’t see any of this this and there are still positive comments on the service out there. However, the fact that so many have cited this as an issue is worth pointing out and is something we hope will be improved in the future.

  1. What promotions are available at Bwin?

There’s a few promotions available on Bwin at the time of writing. Here’s a select few so you can get an idea of what to expect here in terms of bonuses:

  • Acaa Madness:
bwin Acca Madness Win monthly prizes, including £10 daily prizes. Simply enter by placing a minimum of three selections with a minimum stake of £2 and with minimum odds of 4/10. The top free leaderboard winners in March will receive a larger prize fund dependent on how much money goes in.
  • 5 Team Acca Insurance:
If you place a cumulative bet with a minimum of five bets (or teams) and you only lose by one, you will be refunded your stake up to £25 pounds. This is a simple and generous offer.
  • bSpring One Wheel Lots of Prizes:
    bwin bSpring promotion
This promotion is essentially a prize draw that you can be entered into for for spinning the bSping wheel every day in a week. The guaranteed prizes that are up for grabs include free spins and other bonuses.

On the other hand

While none of these promotions are bad value, they’re not particularly interesting either. The promotions at Bwin largely seem to be based on cash prizes or are very generic promotions that are seen on most other large betting sites.

Also for their bSpring One Wheel Lots of Prizes promotion, they cite bonuses as one of th e guaranteed prizes that are up for grabs. These include “Direct casino bonuses” with no real indication on the specifics of what is available for players to actually win. Overall, their promotions offering is mediocre, at best.

  1. What’s the final verdict on Bwin?

bwin logo

As is usually the case, the truth is somewhere in the middle. Bwin doesn’t appear to be the disaster some reviews suggest: nor is it the knockout of a site claimed by some critics. Its sportsbook selection is decent and the site looks good. But the casino is a disappointment and the response from customers regarding its customer service and their banking issues is more than enough to create a black cloud over the site.

It’s a shame too, as the site has so much potential and clearly has the financial horsepower to fulfil that potential. We hope it shakes off its past problems and starts addressing the issues their customers have had. By fixing just a few niggles here and there, Bwin could excel themselves right up to the top of the sportsbetting and casino pack.
