7 Questions To Help You Decide If You Should Bet Online With BetOnline

In our quest to bring you all the best betting site reviews on the net, today we’re going to be taking a look at BetOnline. They might not be a household name in the same way William Hill is for a lot of people, but don’t let that fool you. This online sportsbook operator is no shrinking violet.

They’re actually one of the most popular online betting sites in the world in terms of traffic: coming in at the top 60 according to a 2006 report. We are unable to find out how well the site has kept this position, but it would be fair to say it is unlikely to have become a very small fish in the betting site ocean.

With it being both a sportsbook and casino site though, we’ll mostly be comparing it to likewise sites. So JenningsBet and Betclic are fairer examples than casino exclusive sites like Jupiter Club or Manhattan Slots, for example.

This doesn’t mean we might not compare them in terms of the casino section or in design, more that there will be a focus on the former.

We aim to keep things fair and balanced. To do this, for each question we answer, we’ll also take a look at the other side of the argument with our “on the other hand” section.

In terms of what we’ll cover, we look to answer all the important questions relevant to the site, promotions, customer service, site design etc.

The latter brings up an important point. Although we do our utmost to keep everything as objective as possible, some site elements are more subjective than others.

BetOnline mobile

For example, most people would agree that having round the clock customer service is a good thing. However, something like the very modern like Rizk Casino may not suit someone looking for something more traditional in terms of theme and aesthetic.

With that in mind, it’s always a good idea to check out the site for yourself. You’ll only really get a feel for its sense of personality and style by experiencing it. We also advise checking out some of its competition as well before making any decisions. You can also check out any number of our reviews here to get the full picture.

Introductions out of the way, let’s take a look at everything you’ll want answered before signing up to BetOnline.

  1. Is the site well designed?

BetOnline home page

It’s fair to say that BetOnline is not going to be winning any awards for site design or inspiring a new way of creating sportsbook and/or casinos.

However, this doesn’t mean it’s a particularly ugly site. Keep in mind that plenty of the most popular betting sites out there are also conservative in their design philosophy. Virgin Casino and Sportsbook for example keep things simple and have massive followings.

The plus side of this minimalistic approach is that the site is very easy to use. Flashing images and big concept aesthetics may look good but they can also leave a site cluttered. BetOnline suffers from no such clutter.

BetOnline sportsbook

If you’ve ever used a betting site, you’ll likely immediately recognise this layout. This might not set the world on fire but from a practical perspective, it does keep things straightforward.

From a technical point of view, we’ve found no issues with BetOnline. The site works very well, is responsive and easy to use and we have few complains layout wise.

Design-wise, BetOnline is all business.

On the other hand

While it is true that many popular sites do keep things simple, they generally have a touch more polish than we see here. It’s not a massive difference but there is a lack of finesse. There’s a lack of shine here that makes it looks like a film of virtual dust has landed on the site compared to some of its competition.

It’s not a major problem. It could use a little sprucing up here and there though. It reminds us of smaller casino sites like Las Vegas USA in that regard.

BetOnline casino

We’d also add that the site suffers from what appears to be the curse of the all-in-one betting site in terms of design. This is that the casino isn’t distinctive from the sportsbook and thus, doesn’t appear to have the same level of importance. While we’re not expecting Royal Panda Casino here, a touch more flash goes a long way.

Ultimately, this is a preference thing. While sportsbook and casino sites tend to be a little less flashy design wise, sites like Betfair and Betway have shown there’s a happy medium to be found.

If you’re all about practicality and quite like your sites gimmick free, then BetOnline offers just that.

  1. What customer service options are available and are they any good?

BetOnline customer support

The good news is that the customer support at BetOnline is available 24/7 and includes phone and e-mail options.

On the other hand

Almost identically to The Greek, the site lack a live chat. In fact, our criticisms of the site in this regard are pretty much the same. Having 24/7 coverage without live chat is a waste. Considering they have the staff there, why would they not include this feature?

In terms of the quality of the customer service, we’ve seen several complaints scattered online about their phone team being unfriendly. We can’t verify these claims and there’s certainly not enough of them for us to make any definitive judgement. All we can say is they’ve left a certain portion of customer evidently unhappy.

BetOnline contact details

In their defence, very few, if any betting sites have complete customer satisfaction. So on this point, we’d suggest being a touch wary, rather than dismissive of their customer service quality.

Without more feedback though, we are afraid we cannot comment any further than that.

  1. So what exactly is available on the BetOnline site?

BetOnline financials

Aside from being a sportsbook and casino, they also have a poker and even a financials section. The latter actually offers something of a potential unique selling point over much of their competition.

BetOnline are also known for taking unusual bets, having accepted a wager on the climbing of Mount Everest.

In terms of actual sports available on the site, here are all the options at the time of writing:

  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Football
  • Hockey
  • Soccor
  • Tennis
  • Auto Racing
  • Boxing
  • Cricket
  • E-Sports
  • Futsal
  • Gold
  • Lacrosse
  • Martial Arts
  • Pool
  • Rugby
  • Snooker
  • Softball
  • Futures and Props

BetOnline casino offering

In terms of its casino, it has a decent slot selection from Betsoft, meaning a good variety of high quality games. There’s also a good amount of table games and video poker selections. The live casino is pretty good as well, with a high quality set up.

Their poker offering appears, on the face of it, decent as well, with good software and promotions. There’s plenty of no limit hold’em games to choose from and much more.

On the other hand

That’s not the best sports lineup we’ve ever seen, with plenty sites out there with more to offer. Worse still, when we checked the line up out, we couldn’t seem to get any options for certain sports.

Most have a drop list under each sport to break it into leagues with a tick box available for you to refine your search. However, those without a drop list did not have a tick box and as such, as could not find any options. If that means there was no options are the time then that is a disappointment.

BetOnline poker

While the poker game seems decent, one thing we would say is they do focus on small stakes so big players may want to look elsewhere.

  1. What, if any, promotions are available at BetOnline?

BetOnline promotions

The amount of promotions available at BetOnline is absolutely staggering, with over twenty available at the time of writing. That’s more than TonyBet, MeirdianBet, SuperLenny and a whole host of their competition.

However, it is of course, always better to have quality over quantity. So we’re going to take a look at five different promotions to give you a sense of what’s available. One last thing we’d like to praise before we move onto looking at the offers is their inclusion of different promotions per part of the site. While their poker room might not be nipping at PokerStars’ heels any time soon, it does show a level of commitment to each part of the site.

Often parts other than the sportsbook feel like afterthoughts. We’re happy to say that, at least on this point, that is not the case at BetOnline.

50% Welcome Bonus:
BetOnline 50% welcome bonusThis bonus has a quite astonishing upper limit of $2,500. Deposit and get 50% of your deposit back. The rollover requirement is 10 times, which is very good

100% Bitcoin Bonus:
BetOnline 100% bitcoin bonus There’s another big upper limit here of $1000. Deposit and receive 100% of your deposit back when you choose the bitcoin payment method. The rollover requirement is 14 times. which is arguably better value considering the percentage than the previous promotion. Perhaps this is a case of BetOnline taking a leaf out of BitStarz playbook by highlighting the bitcoin market in their promotions.

Mobile Betting $50 Free Play:
BetOnline mobile betting free play When making your first bet on mobile, receive a $50 free play. This means if you bet $50 or under and it loses, you’ll get that money back in the form of a free bet. There’s another good rollover requirement here of six times to unlock the money

7% Track Rebates:
BetOnline 7% track rebates Receive a daily rebate on horse racing bets with a minimum of $2. This is for online bets. Phone bets receive 4% alongside certain races.

High Roller Bonus:
BetOnline high roller bonus Receive up to $200 depending on how much you play with.

$5000 New Player Freeroll:
BetOnline new player freeroll This is a poker promotion which allows new players to get a seat in a $5000 tournament when they sign up.

On the other hand

There’s a few high minimum deposit amounts, such as $50 for the 50% Welcome Bonus and $20 for the Bitcoin Bonus. This is higher than somewhere like Ladbrokes, which has a minimum amount of £5. On the other hand though, considering its excellent wagering requirements, this is more than forgivable.

Aside from that, there’s a couple of odd terms and conditions. For example, there’s the 7% Rebate, which has a minimum of $2 and specifically $2 dollars and 20 cents. We have no idea why and it doesn’t really matter. It’s just strange.

As is to be expected, there is some variation in the quality of terms and conditions. The High Roller Bonus for instance has a requirement of a million dollars or more. When the prize is only $200, that’s not much of an offer. Considering the Welcome Bonus especially is a rather reasonable deal, this feels outlandish in its contrast.

Overall though, most of the promotions we’ve looked at on BetOnline do appear to offer a reasonably tempting offer.

  1. What licensing/safeguards do they have?

SSL encryption

The site is licensed by the government of Panama, they use SSL Encyption and are audited by the TST.

What this means is that, to the best of our knowledge, they are fully licensed, your information should be secure and their games are proven to be random and fair.

On the other hand

There’s nothing else to add here. You should have no qualms about signing up to and spending your money with BetOnline. They are a completely legitimate and regulated site.

  1. Do they have good critical/customer feedback?

BetOnline advert

Their critical feedback is largely good to very good, having being praised by multiple different sites. That’s not to say the responses are perfect, but we’d put them in general as being above average.

On the other hand

This is a strange situation where the critical feedback in general appears to be better than the customer feedback.

Part of this bad feedback appears to come from a YouTube video about the site that claims to show a dealer cheating on a live game of blackjack. The site has responded by changing who it uses for its live dealer games. It is entirely feasible this is a case of one rogue dealer. It has nonetheless damaged their reputation.

  1. So what do we think about BetOnline?

BetOnline logo

Controversy aside, we like a lot of what we see here. Their promotion selection is largely excellent, their casino section is decent and their poker room looks good for small time players.

However, the sportsbook line up is a bit of a disappointment. The site is practical if not spectacular design wise and that sums up a great deal of our experience.
