Discover Everything BetFred Sportsbook And Casino Has To Offer

Today we’ll be taking a look at one of the bigger success stories of the last ten years within the gaming scene. Betfred was set up a little over a decade ago with just a single shop.

In fact, so astronomical was their rise to fame, that despite having opened up shop back in the late 60s, it wasn’t until the early noughties that the long standing betting veteran finally got their just rewards. In 2003, they were making just over half a million in revenue. By the following year, they’d be earning over £3.5 billion: a momentum that they’ve kept up ever since.

Betfred shop

The site’s name comes from the owner Fred Done, who shared the business with his brother Peter Done. We guess they thought BetPeter didn’t quite have the same ring to it.

It’s no surprise than that their success coincided with the boom in online gaming sites. And today, while not quite on the same level as Ladbrokes or William Hill in terms of brand recognition, Betfred are not lagging too far behind.

So, does Betfred live up to the hype?

It’s certainly got some awfully big shoes to fill. Betfred is both a casino and a sportsbook  site, as well as being a household name with its physical betting shop locations. That means it’s going head to head with the absolute best in the business.

There are other online operators that also have physical locations, such as Paddy Power. However, the likes of Cashino and Grosvenor are casino exclusive operators and don’t offer any onsite sports betting. We therefore consider them a little different to Betfred.

Instead, here we’ll be looking at Betfred’s most fierce online rivals, likes of Virgin casino and sportsbook or Betfair. We’ll still be looking at lesser known sites, such as the similarly named Betegy and Betfirst for the sake of fairness and balance. But it’s that upper end of gaming greatness we’ll be hoping Betfred lands in.

We’ll cover all bases in order to compare between sites and make sure you’re getting everything you need to know to make an informed decision on what site is right for you. In this review, we’ll be looking at everything from customer service to promotions and everything in between.

However, certain things when it comes to betting sites are a matter of taste, such as a site’s style and personality. While not quite as important as banking reliability for example, it still has a considerable impact on your enjoyment as a customer. With so much choice out there, it’s worth taking a little extra time to ensure your decision is just right. With that in mind, we always advise readers to check out the site after reading this review and not to make any decisions before having a look around and seeing for yourself. We’d also suggest that you take a look at some of their competition too, so you can get some perspective as to what else is out there.

So with all that covered, let’s get the answers to the most important questions you need to know about betting juggernaut Betfred.

  1. So what exactly do Betfred have to offer?

Betfred sportsbetting

Betfred isn’t here to reinvent the wheel. This is all about reliability and variety, so there’s no niche here. This isn’t Bitstarz or Blitzfantasy. With Betfred, we have a traditional betting site in pretty much every sense.

So, how does it fare on the variety front?

Well, it might not have any surprises up its sleeves, but it does have a pretty extensive list of options. The site has whole pages dedicated to its sportsbook, in play bets, totepool, online streaming, casino, live casino, bingo, lotto, virtual sports and poker, along with a ‘Vegas’ section. That’s not to mention its VIP page.

Plenty of sites split things up and don’t actually have enough space to fill all that room, such as Sportdec. (Although Sportdec is a work in progress, so we don’t wish to be too harsh on that. But there’s little doubting the site requires more content at the time of writing). Still, although this is not expected from larger sites, like Coral or Mr Green’s Sportsbook and Casino, Betfred really does go above and beyond.

Betfred Vegas

Every site element is overflowing with options. To go through them all would frankly be tedious and would likely make this review a short novel. But needless to say that on virtually every occasion, Betfred delivers with quality and quantity.

To give an example of this, here’s the sportsbook selection:

  • Horse Racing
  • Football
  • Tennis
  • American Football
  • Australian Rules
  • Badminton
  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Boxing
  • Cricket
  • Cycling
  • Darts
  • eSports
  • Gaelic Football
  • Golf
  • Greyhounds
  • Handball
  • Hurling
  • Ice Hockey
  • Lottery Specials
  • Motor Sports
  • Politics
  • Rugby League
  • Rugby Union
  • Snooker
  • Tv Show/Specials
  • Winter Sports

Well, that’s about as conslusive as a list gets. Sure there are sites which focus on one sport more than others, like Punchbets, but for a site trying to be a jack of all trades, this is about as good as it gets. It’s also a pretty good indication of what the rest of the site has to offer as well.

On the other hand

Betfred casino

There’s really not much to complain about here. Because it’s both a sportsbook and casino site, you could argue that it can’t compete with more focused casinos, such as Royal Panda and Rich Casino. Quite honestly though, that would just be splitting hairs.

Whatever type of betting you like, you’ll probably find it here.

  1. Is the site fun to use?

There’s something quite odd about the fact that more established sites often have duller designs. Clearly people enjoy the simplicity of them, or perhaps it’s that they do have that rather simplistic betting shop feel. There’s nothing all that special about Betfred’s logo for example, but it feels right.

Betfred home page

You’ll often find much more exciting and daring designs on the casino market, such as on the vibrant pages of BGO, Manhattan Slots or Rizk Casino. But even on the sportsbook side of things, you could argue that SuperLenny or Centrebet have taken a more contemporary approach. That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re better though. It’s a matter of preference, but the old fashioned trend among ultra successful betting sites is noticeable.

So if you like the minimalistic and functional looks of Virgin Casino and Sportsbook or Guts Casino and Sportsbook for example, then you’ll probably like whats on offer here.

Technically speaking, there’s nothing wrong with the site at all. It’s well laid out, is easy to use and manages its wealth of information brilliantly.

On the other hand

Betfred in-play

There’s not really a complaint here, just a statement of fact that some people won’t enjoy this simplistic look. Some people will want something with a more in your face personality.

The only way of knowing is by checking out the site for yourself, alongside some flashier competition, like the still moderate but more colourful Betfair. Doing a little research will guarantee you are making the best decision when choosing your online betting home.

  1. Are they reliable and do they have a good reputation?

In terms of reliability regarding legitimacy and fairness, it should come as no surprise that Betfred has zero issues here. You don’t get to be this big by offering a scam service and not playing by the rules. Therefore, you can bet your hard earned cash here without having to worry about your security and privacy.

In terms of reputation, obviously Betfred are very well known. That means that they’re under more scrutiny than sites like RealDealBet and 138 for example. Overall, the responses from customers and critics were good: certainly above average.

On the other hand

Their reputation is not quite great though. Really when you’re looking at the top end of sites in terms of awareness, with every financial advantage going for them, good is not quite good enough.

It can be argued that the bright spotlight of fame means that the responses will be a little more weighted compared to overachieving smaller sites. But we’d still hope the general critical and customer response would be a bit better than what we’ve seen in our research.

  1. Does the site have any good promotions?

Betfred promotions

Betfred has lots of promotions available. There’s a total of ten for sports at the time of writing, and that’s not including the welcome bonus. There’s a slightly less impressive five for the casino. Still, that’s a good number without a doubt. It really goes to show just how tough it is for sites without the ability to offer this variety to compete with the likes of Betfred or Paddy Power in terms of big specials and offers.

Because there’s so many promotions, we’re going to just select a few to give you an overview of what kind of quality you can expect. After all, the number of promotions isn’t nearly as important as how good they are.

  • £200 Welcome Bonus:
    Betfred £200 Welcome Bonus
This bonus is split over three deposits. The first will net you 100% up to £100, the second and third reward you with 50% then 25% up to £50 each. The wagering requirement is 40x.

  • Betfred Casino High Roller Bonus:
    Betfred High Roller Bonus
If your first deposit is above or equal to £1000, you’ll receive £500 as a bonus, with a 60x wagering requirement.

  • Sports Welcome Offer:
    Betfred Sports Welcome Bonus
Bet £10 and receive £30 free with this 200% deposit bonus.

  • Super Bonus Races:
    Betfred Super Bonus Races
Place bets on selected races and earn a percentage on your winnings.

On the other hand

Some of the wagering requirements here are just brutal. The £200 Welcome Bonus has a forty times turnover requirement and the High Roller Bonus has an eye-watering sixty times turnover requirement.

This is just an overview and there’s plenty more to see, such as Acca Insurance and Best Odds Guaranteed to name some more simple offers. The general consensus appears to be that the smaller the offer, the more reasonable the odds. This is always the case but on this site, that rule seems to have been taken to an extreme. The Sports Welcome Offer for example might only offer £30 but it’s with a one time wagering requirement, which definitely makes it worthwhile.

Overall, there’s more than enough here to keep you satisfied. It’s only really the high rollers that might feel a little let down.

  1. Do they have good customer service?

Betfred live support

As you might expect, a site as big as Betfred comes with everything you need from a customer service. You’ve got multiple contact options, including that all important 24/7 live chat. Plenty of sites offer a live chat function, but it’s that round the clock service that really makes all the difference.

On the other hand

In terms of customer service, everything we said about their general reputation also applies here. They seem to have decent but not exceptional responses, with very few saying the staff were outright bad.

However, you should bear in mind that people are always quicker to complain than they are to praise. In our experience, the Betfred customer support staff were responsive and helpful.

  1. What banking options are available?

Betfred payment methods

The following deposit options are available at Betfred:

  • Debit card
  • Credit card
  • Neteller
  • PayPal
  • Moneybookers
  • Ukash
  • Bank Transfer
  • Betfred shops

These payment methods are also available for withdrawals.

Minimum deposits depend on your chosen currency but for reference, in GBD they generally average our around the £5 mark. Minimum withdrawals start at £25.

Withdrawals can take up to 48 hours to process.

On the other hand

The way the information is laid out can be a little confusing and hard to follow. A simple table for everything would have been preferable.

  1.  So what’s the conclusion for Betfred?

Betfred logo

Earlier during our comments on their reputation, we mentioned that the expectations for a site such as this can be so high that the responses end up coming across a bit unfair: especially compared to the leniency often afforded to smaller, lesser known sites. Having spent some time with Betfred, we believe that to be true.

This is a very good, possibly great betting site with terrific options, some decent promotions, a simple and easy layout, good customer service and an overall well crafted product. It might not be the king of the betting site mountain just yet but there’s no doubt that it sits well above the vast majority of its competition.
